Stat Testing for Storyteller and Idea Scores

We’re thrilled to announce a powerful enhancement to Upsiide’s capabilities: Statistical Testing is now built directly into both Idea Scores and Storyteller. This update empowers researchers with instant, in-platform significance testing- no downloads, no external tools needed.


Built-In Stat Testing in Idea Scores

Stat Testing is now seamlessly integrated into the Idea Screen reporting experience. With this release, you can instantly determine if differences between idea scores are statistically meaningful or just noise. Visual cues and confidence intervals help you interpret results with clarity and confidence.

  • How it works: Toggle on Stat Testing in a completed study, choose your confidence level (80%, 90%, or 95%), and optionally select a benchmark idea (defaulted to the first idea). Other ideas will then display arrows- ↑ for significantly better, ↓ for significantly worse- making it easy to spot performance distinctions.
  • Enhanced controls: Pin ideas, filter by audience segments, sort by key metrics, and hover over elements for tooltips rich with context. Export your findings as Excel, PowerPoint, or image with stat testing included.

Stat Testing in Storyteller Cross-Tabs

Statistical testing is now also enabled within Storyteller’s cross-tab tables, helping you surface meaningful differences between subgroups without ever leaving the narrative builder.

  • How it works: In Storyteller’s table editor, select “Total %” as your display value (stat testing is not available with “Count”). Toggle on Stat Testing, select your confidence level (80%, 90%, or 95%), and optionally set a benchmark item. Comparisons will be made automatically across your items.
  • Insightful indicators: Statistically distinct results are flagged with letters (A, B, C, …), arrows for directionality, and tooltips that detail confidence level and comparison groups. Minimum base size is 30 responses per subgroup, and Storyteller supports multi-select and grid questions. Export with stat testing included, and add footnotes for clarity in presentations.

By embedding statistical testing directly into both Idea Scores and Storyteller, Upsiide enables faster, smarter decision-making. No more exporting data or manually running tests- just instant clarity and confidence, right where you need it.


What’s Next

Survey Export

We are excited to introduce our latest feature: Survey Export.

This new functionality allows you to export the contents of your study as a Word document, making it easier than ever to share and review your research.

Export all questionnaire information, including section names, questions, answers, logic, recall details, idea content, and tags.

Preserved Formatting

All formatting is retained in the exported document, ensuring that your survey looks just as it does on the platform.

Multi-Language Support

Generate different files for each language used in your study, making it simple to manage multilingual projects.

What You Should Know:

  • Each language version of your survey will be exported into a separate file, ensuring clarity and organization.
  • The export includes every detail of your survey, so you can review and share your study with complete confidence.

Introducing Rank Question

Add a Rank Question to your next survey

This question type requires respondents to rank the different answer options. As usual, we have done it with a mobile first approach. Respondents can select the answers based on their preferences and even re-order them, by clicking or dragging them.

A few things to know:

  1. You can have respondents rank all answers or select a specific count of responses for them to rank. That could be "Rank your top 3" as an example. In any case, respondents will never be asked to rank more than 10 answers, that would just not be a fun survey.
  2. In report mode, you will have the average rank for all answers calculated automatically and will see the distribution of all ranks for the different answers. In a convenient way, you will be able to show only certain ranks and see the cumulative percentage of respondents that have ranked those answers in these ranks.

Introducing SPSS Export

Download as SPSS

This will download all study data in multiple SAV files, one for each section, and packaged into a .zip folder.

  1. You will have different different files for each section and they further break down into files for question answers, Idea info, Interest scores & Commitment scores depending on what sections you have in your study.
  2. Idea Split files will be stacked data -you'll have multiple rows for the same respondent ID, equivalent to the number of ideas a respondent saw in the Idea Split

You can use these exported data files as inputs for advanced analytical tools.

Introducing Scale Averages

Averages provide a single-number summary of response on a single-response scaled question. Averages is our version of 'mean scores' in research-speak.

Introducing Averages into Upsiide means that you can now more quickly distill complex data into a single number. This allows you to understand the data more quickly and/or convert the data into something more meaningful quickly.

Here you can see Averages in the context of our Idea Split module:

In order to turn Averages 'on' for your single-select scale questions, simply toggle 'Add Scale' (within Settings) in the question builder.

The introduction of Mean Scores into the platform means that you can now run a different type of stat-testing (t-tests) which often requires smaller sample sizes to find significant differences.
